Lucas Arts closes – Where are the Best Star Wars Games?

Some fans are going to get real mad hearing this – Disney who acquired both Lucasfilm and its entertainment and video game devision which has released the best Star Wars games, LucasArts, with the following statement:

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” Disney informed Game Informer in a statement.”

“As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles”.

First founded in 1982 by the brainchild of Star Wars and LucasFilm, George Lucas took a shot at the development and publishing of games to make diversify and strengthen his film company. Ballblazer, 2D adventure game The Secret of Monkey Island, and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis were some of the first games created in the early 90’s. In the 2000’s, LucasArts released the immensely fun, Star Wars : Jedi Knight series, as well as the Knight of the Old Republic series, one of the best Role Playing Game series ever made

Possibly the best star wars game – the ‘Jedi Knight’ serie

However, more recent Star Wars titles have not been as.. fantastic. Massively Multiplayer Online Game Star Wars : The Old Republic, are even allowing users start playing for free, less than a year into its launch. The most recent title, Kinect Star Wars has also been rather quiet. Check out the ‘Galactic Dance Off’, taken from Kinect Star Wars below.

Ridiculous, isn’t it? A number of Star Wars games have been planned prior to Disney’s acquisition, and itwas unsure whether how Disney would continue to develop games like Star Wars 1313 and First Assault. With this latest news, we could say that these games are never going to see the light.

Personally, LucasArt’s recent endeavors have been shaky, and it is obvious that most Star Wars games suck anyway. Therefore I feel that it might be a good idea for Star Wars games to be licensed out someone else that could possibly do it so much better. Could we possibly see the best star wars games, after this decision to close LucasArts?
